Whether cycling, horseback riding or hiking, Nordic walking or running – Burgenland offers a lot of possibilities for those hungry for exercise. And in the mild Pannonian climate many sports can be practiced almost year round. This is a holiday on the sunny side of Austria – this is a holiday in Burgenland …
There are about 2,500 cycle-path kilometers waiting for pedal knights – from the cozy family round to the challenging mountain bike trail. Particularly popular is the 138-kilometer-long Neusiedler See cycle path, which has recently been connected to the Danube Cycle Route through the “Discoverer Tour”. Mountain bikers romp on the steep slopes of Rosalia, Geschriebenstein and Eisenberg. And e-bike rounds are just as “in” in Burgenland as trolley tours or quad and segway excursions.
Hiking, running and walking enthusiasts will find their holiday fun in the running and walking arena Bad Tatzmannsdorf, in the Nordic Walking Panorama Park Lake Neusiedl, in the movement arena Stegersbach and in the running and walking arena Seewinkel-heath ground. In addition, numerous long-distance and long-distance trails provide impressive experiences – such as the “alpannonia” – altitude and panoramic trail from Semmering to the edge of the Hungarian lowlands.
Enjoyment for riders, golfers, sailors
Horseback riders can be found on 1,500 kilometers of hiking trails through the landscape: dozens of riding stables, equestrian, guest and farms, the possibility of GPS-assisted tour planning with free equipment rental and the member farms of Burgenland galloping make the country the largest and most attractive riding region Austria.
Golfers appreciate Burgenland mainly because of the mild climate. This allows almost full year swinging off on the domestic courts in Donnerskirchen, Lutzmannsburg, Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Stegersbach and Loipersdorf. The Lake Neusiedl offers year-round sports opportunities: In the warm season, he is considered one of the most sought-after sailing and surfing areas in Europe, while winter offers a paradise for ice skaters and ice sailors. The reed belt of the lake as well as the Raab, the Leitha and the meanders of the Lafnitz invite to boating. Many places and numerous hotels have their own tennis courts. And football is very important in Burgenland: the country acts as the main sponsor of the Austrian national team, and the association Best of Football brings, among other things. top international clubs for training camps in the region.
Excursions
Burgenland deviates fundamentally from the usual idea of Austria. You are looking for mountains here in vain; wide plains, the easternmost steppe lake in Central Europe, rolling hills, forests and meadows, and unclear vineyards characterize the landscape.
Conservation enjoys a long tradition in Burgenland. The cross-border National Park Neusiedler See-Seewinkel is a huge nature reserve. With its reed belt, saline varnish and swampy meadows, it provides habitat for nearly 300 species of birds. Many of them can be seen on the ongoing birdwatching excursions.
Six nature parks Neusiedler See-Leitha Mountains, Rosalia-Kogelberg, Landseer Mountains, Geschriebenstein-Írottkö, Weinidylle and the three-country park Raab-Örség-Goricko come up with impressive natural landscapes. Nature and the mild Pannonian climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year make Burgenland an oasis of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city
